Visit The Reading Pagoda
Reading's iconic Pagoda was constructed in 1908 by local businessman and City Councilman William Abbott Witman. After a failed attempt to gain a liquor license and run the establishment as a unique resort, the property sold to another local businessman, Jonathan Mould. Mould deeded the property to the City of Reading on April 21st, 1911 for $1, with the understanding that Mount Penn and the Pagoda itself would become the birthplace of Berks County's Conservation movement, spearheaded by Mould himself.
His legacy is responsible for the vast acreage of undisturbed wildlife, wonderful trails, and natural panoramic views we enjoy today. The landmark quickly became a popular tourist destination and a beacon of home to generations of Berks Countians. Learn more about its history here.
Today we operate as a tourist destination, educational center, and events venue.
Upcoming Public Tours
We have announced four fall opening walkthrough dates for the public. The cost is $3 / ticket. Our first (September 6th) is already sold out. Please note tickets for September 19th will go live on September 7th. Tickets for Oct 4th will go live on September 20th, and tickets for October 24th will go live on October 5th. If you miss them do not fret, there will be more openings in the future. We plan to have regular operations beginning in 2027.

Our building is currently open for large group tours by appointment only. We welcome organizational groups of between 15-40 people at a time. Fill out the form below to contact our board and schedule a visit. Please request dates at least 14 days away, but the further out the better chance we will be able to accommodate.
